How To Manage Your Diet After Weight Loss Surgery

A very strict weight loss surgery diet is being advised to those people who have undergone gastric bypass surgery. You should have a proper diet; it only means that you should eat right foods at the right time. This is due to the gastric bypass surgery that makes your stomach a little bit smaller than before. It is imperative that you follow the diet prescribed to you by your doctor or nutritionist. You will also notice that the food you eat will need to have a certain texture, amount and consistency. This will aid you in losing weight while still meeting all your nutritional needs.

The first one to two days after your weight loss surgery, your food is consist of only liquids. This is due to the tenderness you will experience from the surgery, and it will give your stomach time to heal. It is going to take some time for your stomach to adapt to its new configuration and you do not want to rush it along. The first three months of your new weight loss surgery diet will consist of liquids, pureed, and soft foods.

The liquids and semi-liquids that only included and allowed to have on your weight loss surgery diet should be taken at room temperature. Water, broth, juice, cooked cereal and milk are your main source of food during first two or three days after the procedure. Then after, you can move up to pureed foods that have the texture of smooth paste or thicker liquids. There should be no visible pieces of food in the mix. It is recommended to eat this type of food for 3 to 4 weeks to allow your stomach heal completely. For eight weeks, you should eat soft foods that are tender, easy to chew, and in small bits. Finely diced meat, canned and soft fresh fruits, and cooked vegetables are also highly recommended. These foods help you eat regular food with textures with no difficulty

In addition, it is best to eat six to seven small meals a day supplemented with water. With eating regular food in the right time expected the; you will be able to take three to four meals a day. It decreases the amount of times you eat as you go along the healing process. Your meals should include foods such as lean meats, eggs, and yogurt to ensure that you get the protein needed to achieve a fast recovery. Your weight loss surgery diet can be adjusted as you undergo recovery, and the average person is back to eating regular food around three months after their surgery.

As a whole, your weight loss surgery diet will help you change your eating habits into something that is healthier. You will learn to avoid foods that you used to eat earlier, such as high-sugar, high-fat foods and learn to eat healthier. Lastly, any weight gain or plateau should be reported to your doctor so that your weight loss surgery diet can be adjusted accordingly.
